We head to Velas to witness the release of turtles in the sea at the Kasav Mahotsav (Turtle Festival) - a conservation and community based eco-tourism venture run by the local community at Velas.

Schedule

Day 1 - Depart for Velas
  • 6:00 am - Assemble at Fergusson College Main Gate
  • 6:15 am - Depart for Velas in a mini-bus.
  • 6:30 am - Chandani chowk pick-up.
  • 8:30 am - Breakfast en-route
  • 1:00 pm - Arrive at Velas, followed by lunch and time for leisure.
  • 3.30 pm - Explore the areas around Velas village.
  • 5:30 pm - Velas Beach for the release of turtles.
  • 8:30 pm - Dinner.
  • Overnight stay in Velas
Day 2 - Velas Beach For The Release Of Turtles
  • 6:00 am - Turtle release on Velas Beach
  • 8:00 am - Breakfast followed by some leisure time to explore the village.
  • 9:30 am - Head to Shrivardhan via the Bankot-Bagmandla Ferry boat.
  • 1:00 pm - Lunch at Shrivardhan.
  • 2:30 pm - Depart for Pune

Terms & Conditions

Accommodation is in one of the houses in Velas village.
The stay is basic, but hygienic & clean.
We will make sure that everyone gets a mattress to sleep on.
Separate bedrooms for each individual/family are not available.
Sharing western & Indian toilets will be available
Turtle hatching is a natural event and cannot be manipulated.
Seeing the turtles is not guaranteed. But the conservation project, the community-based tourism initiative and involvement of locals in conservation is worth the visit!
