Tung is also know is Kathingad, as it was very difficult earlier, not the tar road has reached right at its base. Even then, one can experience a challenging climb to reaching the top on this fort. The fort is conical and has few steep climbs with a very narrow route on the edge of the mountain throughout. Trek time is approx 1 hr from base of the fort.

Tikona (also known as Vitandgad) is the dominant hill fort in Maval in western India. It is located near Kamshet around 60 km from Pune. The village nearest to the fort is called Tikona-Peth. The 3500 ft high hill is pyramidal in shape and the name Tikona means "triangle".

Event Details


Day 1 - Tung - Tikona Trek
  • 06.00 am - Assemble – Paud road, outside Multifit / Burger King near PNG showroom Kothrud.
  • 06.15 am - Departure from Pune by private bus
  • 08.00 am - Reach Tung base, have breakfast & start trek.
  • 10.00 am - Reach top & explore fort & descend.
  • 12.30 pm - Proceed to Tikona base by bus
  • 01.00 pm - Reach Tikona base & start trek.
  • 02.00 pm - Trek & reach Tikona top, have lunch (to be brought by participants) & explore Fort.
  • 04.00 pm - Start descend.
  • 05.30 pm - Evening tea & refreshments
  • 06.00 pm - Start return journey to Pune.
  • 07.30 pm - Reach Pune (approx timing)

Things To Carry

  • Pack Lunch
  • A Backpack / trekking sack. (Please avoid Zola or sling bag as it becomes difficult to trek with them)
  • Minimum 3 liters of water.
  • Electral/ORS
  • Torch with extra batteries. (Just in case)
  • Personal medication (if required). Basic first aid will be available.
  • Cap & rain cover.
  • Extra pair of clothes to change.
  • Camera (Optional)
  • Some emergency food like biscuits, plum cakes, chocolates etc.
  • Shoes are must - Good quality trekking /sports..
  • Double pack your valuables in plastic bags to avoid getting wet
