Lake Side Camping & Trek To Jungli Vasota & Nageshwar Cave

Vasota Fort, Near Satara
2 Days1 Night

Event Overview

Vasota Situated on the western edge of the Satara District Vasota is covered in dense forest all the way through. With panoramic view of the shiv saagar lake on the eastern sife and the konkan plains on the west and surrounded by the river Koyna Vasota makes a special treat for trekkers.

There are two forts, juna Vasota and navin Vasota. juna Vasota on top of babukada – the second tallest cliff in Maharashtra is not accessible. There are two entrances to the navin Vasota one of which is in a dilapidated state as of now and the fort can be entered through only the second entrance. On entering the fort there is a Hanuman temple which is devoid of a roof. From here the straight path leads to the remnants of the fort. The left path leads to the Kalkaiche Thane. On the way is the Mahadeo temple and ahead of it is Machi with spectacular views of the surrounding region. You can also see the Babukada reminiscent of Konkankad of Harishchandragad. The mountain ahead of Babukada is the old Vasota.

Bamnoli, famous for its natural beauty, is a major tourist attraction located in the Satara District of Maharashtra, at distances of about 36 km from Satara City and 20 km from Kaas Lake. Bamnoli is a village situated on the banks of Shivsagar Lake, which is a backwater lake in the vicinity of Koyna Dam, constructed on River Koyna.

It can be said that a visit to Vasota is incomplete without visiting Nageshwar. A distinct pinnacle on the way to Vasota, Nageshwar cave is carved in this pinnacle Mahadeo temple inside it. Water droplets fall on the Shivling from the rooftop of the cave throughout the year.

Babukada on Vasota – second highest cliff in Sahyadri, After Kokankada on Harishchandragad is the highest.
