Chadar Trek Expedition

9 Days8 Nights

Event Overview

Chadar trek, also known as the frozen river trek is one of the most unique and challenging treks in Ladakh region in India. It is absolutely surreal to trek upon the frozen waters of Zanskar River, as the arduous mountain trail on the ice-clogged river passes through valleys, mountain caves and frozen waterfalls. In fact, one of the highlights of this Chadar trek package is to show you the most magnificent Nerak waterfall, which is frozen completely from top to bottom. The temperature here may dip to below minus 10 degrees and yet the frozen river trek attracts thousands of trekkers from all around the world. The river Zanskar freezes over in the winters and creates a sheet of ice on it, hence the name ‘Chadar’. Mid-January to mid-February is the best time for Chadar trek. The frozen Zanskar river is basically a connecting link between the villages of Zanskar Valley and town of Chilling in Ladakh. In the months of extreme winter, it acts as the only and the most stable way of staying connected to the rest of the world for the people here.

Event Details

Day 1 - Arrival at Leh
  • Leh is the second largest district in the country, situated at an altitude of more than 3500 meters above sea level. During winters, as most passes connecting to Leh are closed, you will be flown to the highest airport in the world, Leh airport. As soon you touch the ground, you will be feeling dry and cold air, but what will take all your attention is the haughty, snow-capped mountains around you; a sight to be remembered forever. After completing the arrival formalities, we will take a taxi and leave for the pre-arranged hotel. Enjoy an overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 2 - Acclimatization Day
  • As per the regulations and keeping in mind the health problems that trekkers might face (AMS), anyone doing the Chadar Trek should at least spend two days in Leh for the body to get fully acclimatized to the weather conditions. It is unalterable and it is essential and is to be strictly followed by every trekker. Trekkers can spend the day by visiting the places around the city.
