2. Personal Effects :
First aid kit comprising any personal medication, aspirin / paracetamol, band-aids, head-ache balm, rehydration salts of your choice, anti-allergy pills, anti-diarrhea pills, anti-nausea pills, small scissors, nail file, sun-block (50 SPF), lip balm, after sun moisturizer, insect repellent and antihistamine/insect bite cream, female hygiene products.

Water purifying / iodine tablets.
Prescription Diamox / alternate for altitude sickness.
Prescription glasses / contact lenses and solution.
Antibacterial gel and wet-wipes.
Wide brim hat, sunglasses with UV protection.
Minimum 2 liters water bottle so you don’t have to buy plastic bottles, cloth shopping bag.
Book to read, journal, pen, travel pillow, cards / travel games.
Eye mask, ear plugs, army knife (this must always be in your checked in luggage when you are taking a flight).
Adapter, alarm clock, phone with charger, i-pod / MP3 with charger and spare ear-phones, camera and film if your camera needs it.
Travel pillow, torch with reusable batteries, head-lamp.

Itinerary Day 01:
Arrival, Tangkahan
Welcome to Indonesia. Upon your arrival at Medan Airport you will be met by our representative and transferred to Tangkahan. Please ensure you arrive before 12 noon as our transfer to Tangkahan is a group transfer. Those arriving earlier will need to wait till the departure at noon. You will have ample picture stops enroute and upon arrival in Tangkahan you will check into your jungle lodge which will be your base for the next three nights.

Day 02:
Trekking At Tangkahan Jungle
After breakfast today you will have access to a range of adventures suitable for travellers of all abilities. Challenge yourself with a trek through the dense rainforest, over rugged terrain and across crystal clear rivers. Next, enjoy some caving with your skilled guides who will lead the way and introduce you to the beautiful stalactite and stalagmite. They will take you to the small river that runs along the bottom of the cave. Then enjoy the Batang Serangan River by riding on inner tubes that have been modified for your safety.

Day 03:
Day Free, Tangkahan
Your time is at leisure today. You can rest up and enjoy the jungle or discuss some optional activities with your guide who can arrange some more action for you (at your expense) or suggest alternatives.

Day 04:
Tangkahan - Bukit Lawang
Today we take the jeep to Bukit Lawang after breakfast. The drive is approximately 3 hours long and you will have the opportunity to pass by a few villages along the route. We check in to the eco-lodge and you are free for the rest of the evening. You can explore the surroundings on your own in this tiny village that is easy to explore on your own. Before ending the day you will want to be prepared for the two-night trek into the jungle that will be the highlight of your trip.

Day 05:
Trekking, Leuser National Park
After breakfast we start our walk through the riverbank, crossing the river by traditional canoe and walking up the jungle to the Leuser National Park to witness the Orangutan getting fed at the rehabilitation centre during their feeding time. We continue trekking through the Leuser National Park where we can expect to witness not just more reclusive Orangutans but also many more flora and fauna that the Leuser National Park is home to. You can expect to enjoy the song of birds and Siamang "The Black Gibbon". For the next two nights your overnights will be in tents or shelters that will be set up by your crew. You are welcome to help out with cooking and other chores, as this is a great way to understand more about the locals.

Day 06:
Trekking, Leuser National Park
Another six to seven hour of trekking today will give you the opportunity to encounter some more of the native wildlife. The national park is also home to exotic animals like elephants, tigers, sun bears and even rhinoceros. The dynamic Thomas lead monkey is another awe-inspiring creature that you are likely to encounter in addition to the Orangutans. We will walk down to the bank of the river where we can swim before we settle down for the night.

Day 07:
Trekking, Leuser & return to Medan
After breakfast you walk for half a day trying to get the last glimpses of the rain tropical forest with its wild life living in their natural habitat. Lunch is included and by mid noon we will be back at Bukit Lawang from where we drive to Medan. Check in to the hotel and time to unwind and go over your amazing experiences of trekking in one of the last bastions of the orangutan.

Day 08:
After breakfast transfer to airport for your flight out from Medan. You can extend with a trek to the volcanoes of Java or how about a cycling tour of Bali?

Your expert and qualified local guide and the rest of the crew who are natives of Sumatra will introduce you to the various other fauna and flora that co-exist in this jungle that forms a World Heritage Site along with the Bukit Barisan Selatan and Kerinci Seblat National Park for the diversity it protects. The trip starts with the Tangkahan forest, situated at the edge of the Gunung Leuser national park giving you the opportunity to also enjoy the Sumatran elephants. The trip operates throughout the year but the best time is the dry season from April to September.
