A Beautiful View of Devkund Waterfall

“We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”

Devkund Waterfalls is situated in the wild of great Sahyadris. If you want to see real magic of Mother Nature, then this is the place for you. Hiding inside the dense forest and making it more beautiful with its magnificent  heights is the exact description of this waterfalls. Tamhini Ghats outing in Monsoon is must do thing for the  people from cities like Pune and Mumbai. But few one knows this real beauty. There are two ways to reach this place.

  1. You can descend down the plus valley and reach the top of this waterfalls.
  2. You can go to the Bhira village and then trek in the dense forest for 3 hours. It will lead you to the bottom of this waterfalls.

My Experience:

Find your own ways(FYOW) is the newly formed trekking group by my friends Nikhil and Trushna. Their motto is to go to less explored places, forts in the Maharashtra. After seeing their event about Devkund Waterfalls, I had immediately registered for this trek.

16th Oct 2016:

Our departure was from Swargate Chowk, Pune at 7 am. We started our journey towards Tamhini Ghats after arrival of all participants. The route was Swargate- Chandni Chowk- Paud- Mulshi-Tamhini Ghats- Bhira Village. Bhira village is situated after the Tamhini Ghats. Bhira Dam is a picturesque place situated in Bhira village, Kolad in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Built by the Tata Power Company in 1927. There is also one another trek is famous during the rainy season. That is Andarban Jungle Trek, 14 km of  jungle trail in rainy season is another must do trek in this region. The ending point of the Andarban Trek is the starting point of the Devkund Waterfalls Trek. We reached in Bhira Village around 10.15 am. After introduction session of all participants, we entered in dense forest to reach our destination.  Don’t do this trek in heavy rains. There are 3-4 patches where water is poured during the heavy rains and you shouldn’t  cross it without  a proper safety. So my suggestion is to do this trek in October mostly.   This is the best season for this trek.

Trek Unexplored Devkund Waterfalls

Trek to Unexplored Devkund Waterfalls

If you are going with a group then don’t worry about the routes but if you have decided to do this trek with your friends or alone then PLEASE take a guide with you from Bhira Village. Here is the number of local guide(if you needed) :Prakash= +91 87935 32972 and for food: Shelar= +91 72762 83442. There are so many confusing paths during this trek so please be careful. And it’s a dark forest so if you get lost then you will be in big trouble. There are white arrow indications given on the rocks for the better understanding of route but sometimes you can miss them so be alert with  your every step. There are some old houses during the trek trail so  remind them  to get the better idea of the route. After  trekking for almost 3 hours. I finally got the first glimpse of devkund waterfalls.

Amazing view of Tamhini Ghat.

The small 10 min rock patch took me to the heavenly view of the Devkund Waterfalls. WOW!! I was speechless . It was so beautiful  and my eyes couldn’t get enough of it. I had explored the Unexplored and as it was beyond my expectation. I sat there at the bottom of the waterfalls and seeing the magnificent beauty.  My camera has captured some beautiful clicks of Devkund Waterfalls & beautiful nature.

After a Photo session ,  to enjoy the moment I jumped into the lake and chilling water took my breath away. It was so much needed after such a long trek. After enjoying in the water we had our lunch and we headed back to Bhira village around 2 pm. The returning journey took less time because of known routes. This Devkund Waterfalls gave me Some priceless moments of life.  Travelers and Trekkers should add this trek into their bucket list.
