Kaas Plateau, also known as Kaas Pathar is a volcanic plateau situated in the Western Ghat Sahyadri range, a half an hour drive from Satara and around 130 km from the city of Pune. 

Kaas plateau is a plateau located near Satara. It is situated high hill plateaus and grasslands turns into a ‘valley of flowers’ during monsoon season, in the month of August & September. Kaas Plateau has more than 150 or more types of flowers, shrubs and grasses. The orchids bloom here for a period of 3–4 weeks during this season. Kaas plateau a World Natural Heritage site.

The best time to visit this beautiful place is in Monsoon and the period just post monsoon i.e August, September and October. With the light drizzles and cloudy weather it is amazing to makes long walks on the plateau is just wonderful and pleasurable.

From first week of September till first week of October is the best time to visit and see what can only be a phenomenon. At this moment of time Kass turns into a beautiful valley of wild flowers which is a phenomenal treat for your eyes. Since Kaas plateau declared as a UNESCO bio-diversity heritage site, it’s become one of the most popular tourist destination.

Kaas Plateau is rich in its Bio-diversity. Many species are observed on plateau which is new to the Botanical Science. Many of the endemic, endangered plants are found on Plateau. More than 850 species of flowering plants are reported on the plateau. 624 species have entered in the Red Data Book. Out of these 624 species, 39 are found only in Kaas Region.

The name ‘Kaas’ originates from the Kaasa tree. The leaves of the tree turn red from green as it matures. During the month of March the tree sprouts white flowers. Due to its beauty it attracts many tourists, scientists, photographers and nature lovers.
